Craig Johnson has never written an episode of Longmire for television.

Why 'Longmire' Could Be Getting Big Guest Stars This Season

Though he wrote the novels on which the series is based and has been heavily involved with cast and crew, the writer has never penned an episode. With the recent network shakeup, perhaps the author might get a chance to write an episode now that the series has moved from A&E to Netflix.

Despite trouble in 2014, when A&E axed the crime drama after three seasons, Johnson has always remained a loyal fan of the show.

'Longmire Days' Could Face Overcrowding In 2015

After first viewing the pilot episode in 2011, he was amazed and incredibly pleased with the details utilized from the books to bring the Absaroka County Sheriff's Department to life.

"It was fantastic…" Johnson had told Oregon Live after viewing the pilot. "The performances were magnificent, the camera work inspiring, the sets and location breathtaking, the writing as sharp as a razor."

So will Johnson be lending to that razor-sharp writing this year? Will he step in and show fans a different side of himself? The novelist hasn't showed much of an interest in transitioning into television, but perhaps for his own series he might make an exception.

Longmire was picked up by Netflix in November after producers had offered up the series to half a dozen networks. Writing for the new episodes began soon after. Production is set to begin in March.

Longmire will likely return for a fourth season on Netflix during the later half of 2015.
