Not everyone from the cast of True Detective has been seen on set over the last few months.

Why Colin Farrell Is Unlikely To Surprise On 'True Detective'

Vince Vaughn (career criminal Frank Semyon) and Taylor Kitsch (Officer Paul Woodrugh) have been seen filming a number of outdoor scenes. Even Colin Farrell (Detective Ray Velcoro) has been spotted around Los Angeles with his striking new mustache.

One person who's been noticeably absent is Rachel McAdams, who is playing Detective Ani Bezzerides from the HBO drama's upcoming season. According to the fan site True Detective Rumors, not a single photo has come in showing McAdams anywhere near production.

While McAdams has been seen sporting a new hairstyle at LAX Airport, the actress hasn't been captured by the paparazzi on set. This could suggest that her role on the series is smaller, or perhaps just more carefully guarded.

It's also possible that Vaughn just happens to have more outdoor scenes than McAdams, which could account for the discrepancy. However, the program's male-centered first season could have some fans worrying that McAdams role will play second fiddle to those played by Vaughn, Farrell and Kitsch. If the actress hasn't been on set much, them maybe her role isn't as big as viewers had initially thought.

One thing is for sure, Vaughn will be getting plenty of screen time when the season premieres this summer. Known mostly for his comedic roles, Vaughn has been in a few dramas which prove he has what it takes to take on serious subject matter.

The second installment of HBO's crime drama will take place in California following the murder of a city manager. Creator Nic Pizzolatto will pen all the episodes, with numerous directors stepping in to take over for the Emmy-winning Cary Fukunaga.

True Detective will return on HBO for a second season mid-2015.
