‘Beauty and the Beast’ Movie: Ryan Gosling To Star Opposite Emma Watson In Highly Anticipated Live-Action Remake? [VIDEO]
Disney may have found its Beast for the upcoming Beauty and the Beast live-action remake.
According to Cinema Blend, Disney's top choice for the role is none other than The Nice Guys star Ryan Gosling, and they have reportedly already offered him the role-though it is unclear if he has accepted as of yet.
The film will be a live-action remake of the animated classic from 1991, which told the story of Belle (voiced by Paige O'Hara), who offers herself to a Beast (Robby Benson) in place of her previously held captive father. During her captivity, she and the Beast manage to fall in love-and after surviving the unthinkable together, he is revealed to actually be a handsome prince.
The film went on to win two Oscars for Best Original Score and Original Song, and received additional nominations for Best Picture and Best Sound.
It was previously announced that Emma Watson would portray the role of Belle, with a script by The Perks of Being a Wallflower writer Stephen Chbosky. It will be directed by Bill Condon, who previously helmed The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.
It is unclear who could potentially portray the character of The Beast should Gosling turn the part down.
Should he take the role, it would likely require Gosling to do some singing if Disney chooses to keep the musical element with the remake. The last time fans heard him sing in a film was the 2011 drama, Blue Valentine.
