How Many Gospel Choirs Does It Take To Make A Grammy Show?
As the Grammys are the official, annual music extravaganza, while the singers went all out with their performances, the key component that heightens the listening experience, bringing it closer to divinity was to be found in abundance, with the magic of gospel choirs.
On the evening of February 8, the performances of musicians like Beyonce, Pharrell, Sam Smith, Mary J Blige and Madonna were powered by eletrifying gospel choirs. Flanking the singers on either side, the gospel choirs took Smith's rendition of Stay With Me featuring Blige to another level. The words thundered through, as they took center stage. Beyonce's song, 'Take My Hand Oh Precious Lord,' was an obvious choice for the choir, with African-American choir singers, dressed in all-white suits, helped resound the diva's lines adding great poignancy to them, and strengthening the arias. Beyonce looked angelic wearing all white too.
Another non-traditional song, suited for a rock church, Hozier's anthem 'Take Me to Church' was bolstered by the choir. And Annie Lenox shared their talent for her rendition of 'I Put a Spell on You,' the song was segued into from Hozier's performance.
Next in line was Pharrell, who put a new spin on his popular song 'Happy' with the help of the choir, also making it a tribute to Ferguson.
