Some stars played it safe at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night, while others left viewers scratching their heads.

The Grammys saw plenty of quiet, emotional performances at the Staples Center in Los Angeles over the weekend. There were, however, a few which proved that just about anyone in the industry has the ability to throw out a wild card.

Perhaps one of the show's more unexpected musical performances involved the artist Sia and her hit single Chandelier (featured below). Sia has garnered much success for the heartbreaking song about alcoholism, and at the Grammys last night the singer performed with her back turned as young dancer Maddie Ziegler and actress Kristen Wiig moved around what looked to big a small, chaotic apartment. Wiig gave an emotional performance as she acted out the song, with Ziegler moving around her onstage.

Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett have remained one of the industry's most unexpected duos, though their performance Cheek to Cheek was definitely a crowd pleaser. In fact, the strangest part of it all was likely Lady Gaga's subdued look, which contrasted greatly with her risk-taking, meat-suit wearing days.

If there had been an award for most bizarre performance, it would have gone to Pharrell. The singer took the stage in a bellhop suit for his hit single Happy, then proceeded to wander around the stage obscurely before dancers came running in and a choir picked up in the background.

Though the number started out rather strangely, the message behind the dancers wearing hoodies echoed the protests for justice and equality which stormed the country following the death of Michael Brown. The social statement of the piece struck a chord with many, while others had trouble getting beyond the number's bizarre opening.
