'Longmire' Season 4 News: A&E Scrambling To Replace Axed Series With New Crime Drama? [VIDEO]
It looks like A&E will be replacing Longmire with another crime series this year.
Find Out When Netflix Might Release The First 'Longmire' Trailer
There has certainly been a lot of network shifting over the last few months. Longmire found a new home on Netflix back in November after A&E elected to cancel the series following its third season. A&E drew in a lot of heat for this decision, and now it looks like the network is trying to find itself a replacement.
On Feb. 6 Deadline announced that A&E has acquired the former CBS drama Unforgettable, which like Longmire, had aired three seasons before cancellation.
Cast Says 'Longmire' Debut On Netflix Is 'Gonna Rock'
Starring Poppy Montgomery and Dylan Walsh, the series follows a woman who cannot forget anything and uses this ability to help solve crimes. So is Netflix scrambling for a drama to replace Longmire? Or does it think Unforgettable could be a hit?
The answer could just be a matter of money. According to Deadline, the license fee for Unforgettable is cheaper than the fee that came with Longmire, which makes the program more profitable for the network.
At the time of cancellation in 2014, Longmire had been A&E's highest-rated scripted series and second-highest rated series total behind the reality show Duck Dynasty.
Unforgettable is set to premiere on A&E later this year, though an exact date has not been determined.
Production for Longmire is set to begin in March. It will likely return for a fourth season on Netflix during the later half of 2014.
