The TV network announced that the popular sitcom Melissa & Joey has been cancelled after four seasons.
"Melissa & Joey will be wrapping production on its final season this week," ABCF said in a statement posted on MSN Entertainment. "The comedy will conclude its storyline at the end of the fourth season, to air later this summer."
'Chasing Life' Renewal Chatter
The TV network's new EVP, Programming and Development Karey Burke gave more details on why the decision was made to let the series go.
"We are proud of the milestones Melissa & Joey has achieved, being the network's first sitcom to reach 100 episodes and the network's first comedy to win a People's Choice Award," Burke said. "Now that the kids are grown and Mel and Joe have married and are looking towards starting a family, it seemed like a natural time to bring the series to a close."
Burke then added how gracious she and everyone else is for the show's success.
"We are grateful to Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence, and the whole cast and crew who worked so hard on this successful show," she said.
The site pointed out that the 100th episode of the series will air on Wednesday, March 18 as the mid-season finale.
The series won a People's Choice Award this year for Favorite Cable TV Comedy. It was nominated in the same category last year and the year before that.
