Actor Joseph Morgan thinks there's a very specific reason why he comes across like an old soul both on and off The Originals.

A Wedding & Betrayal Are Underway On 'The Originals'

On the series Morgan plays the hybrid Klaus, who has been around for hundreds of years. Even when he's out of character though, Morgan believes he's often taken for an "old soul".

"I think my British accent makes me sound like an old soul over here [in America]," laughed the London native during an interview with The CW on Wednesday (featured below). "It's like the idea of an old soul. You know, like whenever you see period drama they have British accents. Even if they're in Greece or France or wherever, it's like British accents."

Morgan relishes in playing the temperamental hybrid, though he admitted that if he had to choose another character to play it would be the role currently held by actor Daniel Sharman.

"For the moment I'd probably say Kol," explained Morgan. "I think it's particularly interesting where his storyline is going right now, without revealing too much."

Morgan things Sharman is doing a great job as Kol this season, even if he has envied some of his costar's speeches.

Kol and Klaus shared some pretty emotional scenes during the Feb. 9 episode, and things are only bound to intensify as the show moves forward.

The Originals will continue on The CW with its second season Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
