While the love a person has in their own life can be much more romantic than the love stories Hollywood puts on the big screen each year, there are some on-screen couples whose stories are so epic, that they are arguably some of the best ones out there.

With Valentine's Day approaching, here are 9 of the best on-screen couples from the movies (who are perfect to watch in either a movie marathon with friends when single, or curled up with the person you yourself are in love with):

1. Landon Carter (Shane West) and Jamie Sullivan (Mandy Moore), A Walk To Remember [2002]

One of the earliest Nicholas Sparks film adaptations, it was one of the few which chronicled a love story which only got to last in high school. Landon and Jamie were far from a conventional high school couple, but still managed to find true love with one another.

2. Kat Stratford (Julia Stiles) and Patrick Verona (Heath Ledger), 10 Things I Hate About You [1999]

The two high school outcasts were made to be together-even though it took a silly scheme by other guys competing to win the heart of Kat's sister to bring them together. But even though their romance wasn't started for the right reasons, it proved to be one of the best ones in the movie.

3. Vivian (Julia Roberts) and Edward (Richard Gere), Pretty Woman [1990]

This updated take of a classic Cinderella story proved that anyone could fall in love-even a Hollywood Boulevard prostitute and a wealthy businessman.

4. Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) and Joe Fox (Tom Hanks), You've Got Mail [1998]

Though the two were initially enemies face to face, they managed to eventually become friends-and later learned they were made for each other after realizing they were each other's online pen pals.

5. Allie (Rachel McAdams) and Noah Calhoun (Ryan Gosling), The Notebook [2004]

Hailed as perhaps the most epic of film-adapted Nicholas Sparks tales, the story of true love over the decades is considered a classic. It also had the added bonus of stars McAdams and Gosling then dating for three years after the film came out.

6. Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet) and Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio), Titanic [1997]

Unfortunately this romance was ill-fated, being that the couple met while aboard the maiden voyage of the ship which famously struck an iceberg and sunk, but for the brief amount of time they were acquainted, the two seemed to share an incredible love story.

7. Baby (Jennifer Grey) and Johnny (Patrick Swayze), Dirty Dancing [1987]

This tale proved that people from vastly different backgrounds could still find love, even after disapproving parents try to put an end to the romance. But hey, nobody puts baby in the corner for a reason.

8. Sally Albright (Meg Ryan) and Harry Burns (Billy Crystal), When Harry Met Sally [1989]

Did you ever have a best friend who was there by your side through everything for years, only to turn around one day and realize they were the love of your life? That was exactly how Harry and Sally feel in love in this classic romance movie, which saw the two go through so many wrong relationships, trials and tribulations, before finally finding themselves ready to commit to one another.

9. Princess Buttercup (Robin Wright) and Wesley (Cary Elwes), The Princess Bride [1987]

There have been countless love stories involving mythical princes and princesses over the years, but none have been as epically romantic as the one between Wesley and Buttercup-which saw them overcome criminals, mythical creatures, and a plot to see them both killed in their quest to spend the rest of their lives together.
