'Switched At Birth' Season 4 Spoilers: Creator Explains Sexual Assault Storyline & Reveals Something She Wasn't Expecting [VIDEO]
Switched at Birth creator Lizzy Weiss gave some more insight on the shocking storyline that just took place on the ABC Family drama.
'Switched At Birth' Christmas Episode Chatter
On Thursday, Flavorwire posted an interview with Weiss who dished on the incident when Tank took advantage of Bay while she was drunk. She mentioned why it was planned to have a grey perspective on the situation that occurred between two exes as opposed to having a black and white standpoint.
"First of all, the more straightforward situations have already been covered a lot on TV, and I wasn't sure we had much new to add to that story," the creator explained. "What we were reading about and hearing about were situations that were much more confusing to all parties involved about what really transpired."

"We wanted to keep it universal, and I think this kind of circumstance is a lot more common than the more clear-cut one in which violence is used or in which the woman clearly says no," Weiss added.
The series creator then admitted that she was a little worried about receiving negative feedback from people who had gone through similar incidents like the one Bay had. But as it turns out, the response wasn't what she expected.
"I was prepared for (some) women and rape survivors to be really angry that we were telling a story in which the act is not clearly labeled 'assault,'" Weiss said. "But to my surprise, women (and survivors) are just really happy that we are putting the story out there and getting the conversation going."
Switched at Birth airs on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC Family.
