Longmire will have some high-caliber competition when it debuts on Netflix later this year.

'Longmire' Star Discusses Her New Show

Whereas the series stood as A&E's highest-rated scripted drama for its first three seasons, Longmire will be surrounded by award-winning programming on Netflix. The series will be standing alongside some of television's top dramas, including Orange Is The New Black and House of Cards.

So will Longmire draw in the same crowd? Will the series be able to hold its own?

Fans Might Get 'Longmire' Screening At Summer Festival

Longmire does have a lot going for it. Similar to the debut of Game of Thrones on HBO, Longmire already has a massive, devoted following. Fans of both Craig Johnson's book series as well as the television program will be following the show as it switches networks this year.

Longmire also has a lot more in common with some of Netflix's hit shows than viewers might think. Like Longmire, Orange Is The New Black and Hemlock Grove both draw their source material from books, while House of Cards is based on a UK series of the same name.

Netflix also has a strong background when it comes to revivals. Arrested Development developed a cult following on DVD after it was cancelled by Fox following its third season. Netflix brought the series to life again in 2013, which resulted in a number of Emmy nominations.

It might look like Longmire will have some stiff competition on Netflix, but when all is said and done the series seems to have found a home there that suits its origin, following, and content.

Production is set to begin in March.

Longmire will likely return for a fourth season on Netflix during the later half of 2015.
