With production only a few week's away, the writers continued to piece together the second half of Longmire's fourth season this.

Why Netflix Is The Perfect Home For 'Longmire' This Season

On Monday writer Tony Tost told followers on Twitter that they were playing Merle Haggard's Kern River as he and the team continued to map out the show's latest episodes.

'Longmire' Star Developing Her Own Series

The song follows a failed oil industry man who's lost the woman he loved, "I'll never swim Kern River again," sings Haggard. "It was there that I met her. It was there that I lost my best friend."

Haggard goes on to sing about drifting away and drowning in that loneliness both figuratively and literally.

It seems like the song could serve more as inspiration for Cady's (Cassidy Freeman) storyline than that of her father, Walt (Robert Taylor). Though Walt lost his wife, Cady is certainly haunted by her mother's murder. The lyrics could speak to where she is at this season, which could very well lead down a self-destructive path.

The popular crime drama's upcoming season will be the show's first run as part of the Netflix lineup. The series lived for three seasons as one of A&E's most popular programs before the network abruptly canceled the show in 2014. Producers searched around for a new network for months before Netflix stepped in and saved the series in November.

Longmire is set to begin production in March. The show will likely return four a fourth season on Netflix during the later half of 2015.
