An unlikely alliance with perhaps deadly consequences might just be forming on Showtime's Penny Dreadful.

'Deadly' New Weapon Introduced On 'Penny Dreadful' This Season

Frankenstein's creature, Caliban (Rory Kinnear), and Egyptian expert Ferdinand Lyle (Simon Russell Beale) don't seem to have anything in common, but that may change soon.

On Wednesday producer Christopher King shared a photo in which he showed Kinnear and Beale on set together under what appeared to be an archway.

'Penny Dreadful' Wins 2 Satellite Awards

So are the two plotting together? Or does Caliban intend to rip the man in half? Caliban spent more of season 1 killing Frankenstein's (Harry Treadaway) allies than making friends, but perhaps all of that is about to change this time around.

Beale appeared briefly during the show's first season, though he didn't have any contact with the primary cast beyond meeting with Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton) and Vanessa Ives (Eva Green). In September the actor was bumped up as a series regular for season 2, which means fans are bound to see more of him moving forward.

Kinnear himself is coming off a great week, having won a Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series for his turn as Caliban.

Penny Dreadful will return on Showtime for a second season on Sunday, May 3 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
