5 Seconds of Summer got nominated back in December for the Worst Band category at the NME Awards, which occur every year through the magazine NME.

Michael Clifford shocked his band's fans on Dec. 17 when he encouraged them to vote for them to win the award.

"[P]ls pls pls vote. I'm not even being sarcastic it would be so incredible to win," he begged.

Calum Hood even retweeted his bandmate's excited tweet about the nomination.

Now, let's fast-forward to this month, the winners for the NME Awards have been announced and sure enough 5 Seconds of Summer got Worst Band, which Clifford is ecstatic about.

Wednesday he tweeted about the win after finding out his band won.

"I'm so damn happy right now. thx to everyone who voted," he dished with two heart-eyed emojis and he even used the hashtag "#dreamscomingtrue".

Clifford, Hood and their bandmates Luke Hemmings and Ashton Irwin are in good company. Previous recipients of the Worst Band award have been last year's winners The 1975 and the Australian band's pals One Direction won in 2013 and 2012.

Fans of 5SOS are delighted their favorite band won the award this year and some even think the band did all the voting on their own to walk away victorious.
