Jay-Z, Beyonce Throw Fundraiser for President Obama; Raise $4 Million at NYC's 40/40 Club
Power couple Jay-Z and Beyonce threw a lavish fundraiser for their friend President Barack Obama and his re-election campaign at the rapper's New York City club 40/40 on Tuesday, Sept. 18.
The $40,000-a head club fundraiser raised $4 million for Obama's re-election cause, according to MTV News.
The president's own DJ, Adam 12, said down with MTV and spoke about the event on Tuesday, and the great lengths Beyonce and Jay-Z went to, to make sure the night happened flawlessly.
"I think it sends an important message for Jay-Z and Beyoncé to throw this fundraiser ... that it's important for people that support the president to actually support the president," said Adam 12. "I know that Jay-Z and Beyoncé had gotten some flak recently for not supporting their community. I think this just goes to show that they do support their community."
At the event, Obama took the microphone and, after he thanked his generous hosts, he made a little joke by saying how he and Jay-Z actually have some things in common.
"Jay-Z now knows, you know, what my life is like," Obama said. "We both have daughters. And our wives are more popular than we are ... So we've got a little bond there. It's hard, but it's OK."
The state of New York is considered a "safe win" for Obama in the November election, according to The Huffington Post, but still the president is making big appearances in the city to keep his name fresh in the minds of New Yorkers.
Earlier he spoke to a crowd at the Waldorf Astoria hotel, where tickets for the event started at $12, 500 per family, according to the publication.
