Julianne Moore of Alice accepted the award for Best Actress at the 87th Academy Awards.

The 2015 Oscars had tight competition for the Actress in a Leading Role award but, as always, only one talented performer could walk off stage with the honor.
Nominated for this year's category were Marion Cotillard for her roles as Sandra Bya in Two Days, One Night, Felicity Jones for her portrayal of Jane Wilde Hawking in The Theory of Everything, Julianne Moore for her work as Dr. Alice Howland in Still Alice, Rosamund Pike for her performance as Amy Elliott-Dunne in Gone Girl, and Reese Witherspoon as Cheryl Strayed in Wild.

While the 87 the Awards marked the first nominations for Pike and Jones, but it was the fifth nomination for Moore (Leading Actress 2002, Supporting Actress 2002, Leading Actress 1999, Supporting Actress 1997), and the second for both Cotillard (Best Actress 2007) and Witherspoon (Leading Actress 2005).
Last year's award went to Cate Blanchette for her portrayal of Jeanette "Jasmine" Francis in Blue Jasmine.
