Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson took her mother, Melanie Griffith with her to the Oscars Sunday night, but she could wind up regretting that decision after the two stopped for a sound bite and appeared to have an argument over the younger actress' recent hit film.

The duo stopped to chat briefly with Lara Spencer, but the moment quickly became a bit more awkward and uncomfortable when Spencer began grilling them on whether or not Griffith would see her daughter's racy new film, which features her taking on the role of Anastasia Steele, who enters into a BDSM relationship with billionaire Christian Grey.

"I don't think I can," Griffith said. "I think it would be strange."

Johnson however, appeared to look a little offended and started to defend the film, based on the best-selling novel, with a little help from Spencer, who tried to convince Griffith that Johnson did a wonderful job in her role and that she was a wonderful actress outside of the controversial scenes.
