John Legend, Common Academy Awards 2015 Script: Singers Deliver Powerful Message During Best Original Song Acceptance Speech For ‘Glory’ [VIDEO]
On the heels of a moving performance of their song Glory from Selma, John Legend and Common became big winners on Oscar night, winning the award for Best Original Song.
Mere moments fate performing their song, the two took to the stage again to deliver a powerful message about the film, noting that it was as poignant as ever due to recent events in the U.S.
"We know that the voting rights that they fought for 50 years ago is being compromised right now,I n this country, today" Legend said during the speech. "We know that right now, the struggle for freedom and justice is real. We live in the most incarcerated country in the world. There are more black men under correctional control today, then were under slavery in 1850."
"When people are marching with our song, we want to tell you we are with you, we see you, we love you, and march on," he added.
