Shakira surprised her fans Wednesday when she confirmed through a personal message on her official website, that she is pregnant with Spanish Soccer star Gerard Pique's baby.

The Colombian singer, 35, told her fans she and Piqe were very happy and she was canceling some events to give priority to the pregnancy.

"As some of you may know, Gerard and I are very happy awaiting the arrival of our first baby! At this time we have decided to give priority to this unique moment in our lives and postpone all the promotional activities planned over the next few days," the singer said on her site.

Shakira was scheduled to perform at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas this weekend with A-list bands and performers including Bon Jovi, Green Day, No Doubt, Aerosmith, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Pink, Mary J. Blige, Lil'Wayne, Usher and Enrique Iglesias among others.

Shakira will also be one of the new judges of NBC's singing competition "The Voice," it was announced earlier this week. Usher and her will replace Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera.

The Colombian singer thanked her fans for their "constant love and understanding," and said she was expecting to see them very soon.

Shakira and Pique, 25, met in 2010 but news of the pregnancy surfaced in June after Colombia's magazine Gente featured a cover story of the singer's baby.

The magazine has ever since claimed that Shakira is expecting her first baby in January 2013.

Still, there are details about the pregnancy that remain a mystery. Gente reports that Shakira is expecting a baby boy and calls her baby "Ulicito" and that she is seeing a high profile doctor in Miami.

"There is 80 percent chance that the baby is a boy," the magazine said on its August 18 issue citing Shakira's supposed doctor Victor H. Gonzalez-Quintero.
