LMFAO Break Up: Band Takes Hiatus To Focus On Solo Projects
The band famous for the inescapable song "Sexy and I Know It" is no more — at least for the time being.
LMFAO members Redfoo and Sky Blue say they are headed in different directions creatively, and because of that, they are taking time away from the group to focus on solo projects.
"I feel like we've been doing this for so long, five or six years. And we're kind of like saying, well, let's just do what's natural and just kind of explore that, instead of like forcing it all the time," said 37-year-old Redfoo.
The musician added that the pair isn't completely severing the connection between them, but instead they are acknowledging that they have separate influences and are headed in separate directions for a while.
"I think that we naturally just started hanging with two different sets of people, two different crowds, but we're always family," he said. "He'll always be my nephew, I'll always be his uncle."
But Spin reports the break-up is not permanent. A representative for LMFAO confirmed to the music magazine that while Redfoo and Sky Blu are taking time apart to work on solo projects, the band is not over for good.
Redfoo told reporters that fans can still expect to see the DNA of LMFAO in all the work he does while he is away from his band mate.
"All the music that I'm going to make is always going to be LMFAO-ish ... I love all the topics that we talk about," he added. "I was really passionate about bringing party music to the world, so I will always be making some kind of party music."
During their time as a band, LMFAO has had some important pop culture moments. The group appeared alongside Madonna in the most-viewed Super Bowl Halftime Show of all time, and the song "Get Crazy" is the theme song for MTV's breakout hit "Jersey Shore."
