Sofia Vergara's Engagement Upstaged 'Modern Family' Co-Star Jesse Tyler Ferguson Popping The Question
Sofia Vergara made headlines nationwide when she became engaged to boyfriend Nick Loeb, but it turns out she upstaged the engagement of one of her "Modern Family" co-stars.
Loeb, a former finance executive, popped the question to Vergara in Mexico during a celebration for her 40th birthday. The festivities had a large guest list that included some of her "Modern Family" cast mates and nearly 90 other guests.
But Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who plays Mitchell Pritchett on the ABC sitcom, said in an interview that he had actually proposed to his partner Justin Mikita days earlier, but the couple decided not to announce it because they didn't want to overshadow Vergara's birthday.
"[Our engagement] happened in Mexico, ironically a few days before Sofia got engaged," Ferguson, 36, said. "I told Sofia the day before she got engaged, very quietly I said, 'Justin and I got engaged, but we don't want to tell a lot of people and we don't want to upstage you on your big birthday weekend,' and then the next day she gets engaged on a Tulum ruin! So, she has upstaged us."
Ferguson and 27-year-old Mikita officially announced their engagement last week, but Ferguson said the couple has not even begun to make any concrete plans for the nuptials.
"We don't know yet," Ferguson said about a wedding date. "Don't hold your breath."
Another "Modern Family" star, Ty Burrell, shared his happiness for the two betrothed couples at a pre-Emmy party his weekend.
"We are a weird little family, so when anyone has anything good happen to them in their lives, we are all excited about it," Burrell said at Entertainment Weekly's Emmy party in Los Angeles on Friday.
When reporters asked Burrell how he would feel if Vergara and Ferguson both got hitched on the same day, he said it would be an exciting party.
"Fun. That would be fun. It's efficient," he said.
