The CBS hit "Person of Interest" returns for its second season on Thursday, Sept. 27, and with the way the show ended last season, there is much excitement in store to be expected this time around.

Episode one, "The Contingency," airs at 9 p.m. Eastern Time.

In last season's finale, we saw Finch get kidnapped by his hacker nemesis, Root, though Reese at first thinks he went missing before putting the pieces together. Reese was sent out on a POI mission which turned out to be a setup just to get Finch in the right place at the right time for Root to make her move. Now, Reese enlists the help of Detectives Carter and Fusco to get his friend back. Meanwhile, The Machine is still working and gives a new number to Reese.

Ken Leung, from "Lost" guest stars in the premiere episode as the latest POI.

Also, Robert John Burke is back as Fusco's NYPD friend Simmons, and Annie Parisse and Mike Kelly will return to their roles as CIA operatives Kara Stanton and Mark Snow, according to TV Line.

The show is about a, presumed dead, former CIA agent, Reese (Jim Caviezel), who teams up with a billionaire and software genius (Finch, played by Michael Emerson) to prevent crimes before they happen with the assistance of a program called The Machine. The software "uses pattern recognition to identify people about to be involved in violent crimes," according to TV Equals.

Greg Plageman, an executive producer of the show, said "POI" will be different in season two.

"You never want to feel like you totally nailed it. You want to keep changing and evolving the show," he said, according to Digital Spy. "There's always the danger of falling into a rut and feeling formulaic, and we've tried to shy away from that. What we have found is a nice chemistry between our characters that works, but we always reserve the right to surprise the viewers with a twist or a killing."

Fellow executive Jonathan Nolan reiterated similar sentiments, saying, "You can tune in and get a satisfying story with a beginning, middle and an end, but also another larger piece of the puzzle for fans watching every week. So, we're setting up kind of a rogues' gallery of villains and setting them loose."

Watch "Person of Interest" on Thursdays and do not miss the premiere episode on Sept. 27, airing on CBS at 9 p.m. ET.
