Irish actor Timothy V. Murphy just might be playing True Detective's mysterious villain this season.

Will 'True Detective' Become A Book?

On March 4 the actor announced via Twitter that he was going to the set of the HBO crime drama as part of his guest appearance on the series.

Is The New 'True Detective' Cast Too Famous?

Murphy's involvement with the program was announced by Deadline on Dec. 5, though it was uncertain who he'd be playing on the show. According to the report, Murphy was only confirmed for the premiere, but on Dec. 11 Irish Central revealed that he'd be appearing throughout the season. This report was in fact confirmed by Murphy's March 4 message on Twitter.

The Irish actor of stage and screen has a long history of playing colorful baddies. He played the wicked Galen O'Shay on FX's Sons of Anarchy and a villain on CBS' Criminal Minds. He is currently working on a series about an out-of-control priest in Las Vegas entitled Holy Roller.

So with his colorful and often unsavory roles, will Murphy be adding True Detective to his villainous resume? Or is he the corrupt city manager murdered in episode 1? The latter would suggest that he'll be appearing in flashback scenes, or maybe old footage from before his character's death.

The upcoming installment of True Detective will star Vince Vaughn (career criminal Frank Semyon), Colin Farrell (Detective Ray Velcoro), Rachel McAdams (Detective Ani Bezzerides), and Taylor Kitsch (Officer Paul Woodrugh). Fast and Furious alum Justin Lin will direct the premiere.

True Detective will return on HBO for a second season mid-2015.
