Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore Divorce: Rumors Say Couple Was Never Legally Married
It's been nearly a year since Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore announced their separation, and Kutcher has since gone public with his relationship with actress Mila Kunis, but Moore and Kutcher still haven't sought a legal divorce.
No divorce papers have been filed to end the couple's six year marriage, which means they could possibly still be legally wed.
But speculation is running rampant that Kutcher and Moore were never actually married by law in the first place, Radar Online is reporting.
Friends of the couple tell the online celebrity gossip outlet that the Kabbalah wedding for Moore and Kutcher was not a legal marriage but simply a symbolic ceremony.
The couple wed in Los Angeles on Sept. 24, 2005, in a Kabbalah ceremony led by Rabbi Yehuda Berg. The private ceremony was even attended by Moore's ex-husband, Bruce Willis.
The union ended when Moore caught Kutcher cheating just as the former lovebirds were reaching their sixth wedding anniversary.
Moore acknowledged that the marriage was over in a statement released in November 2011.
"As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life," Moore said in the prepared statement.
Kutcher has moved on romantically, and he's been dating Mila Kunis in the public eye. The couple vacationed together in Bali over the summer, and they were spotted earlier this week wearing matching outfits as they took a sunny stroll around the New York City streets.
Since the divorce with Moore, Kutcher has joined the hit CBS sitcom "Two and a Half Men." The series' executive producer Jim Patterson said the addition of Kutcher completely reinvigorated the series after eight seasons with Charlie Sheen, who Kutcher replaced.
"Last year, we were scared to death because it was like, oh my god, Charlie was gone. What are we going to do?" Patterson said. "Now, looking forward, it's like this is a whole new show again. This is great."
