Lady Gaga Twitter: Responds to 'Slut' Remarks, Thanks Manhattan Borough President For Defending Her
Staten Island borough president James Molinaro called Lady Gaga a "slut" for smoking marijuana on Sept. 24.
But Manhattan borough president and likely mayoral candidate Scott Stringer, stuck up for the New York native on Sept. 25 saying she was "a social justice activist and a real leader for marriage equality in this country," according to the New York Daily News.
Gaga took to Twitter to thank Stringer: "To @scottmstringer of Manhattan, thanku for your support of my activism as a new yorker. You show political integrity + a modern vernacular."
During the launch event for Staten Island's Tackling Youth Substance Abuse program, Molinaro pointed to two photos of Gaga lighting up a joint during her performance in Amsterdam. At that concert, Gaga took a few puffs and then tossed it in the audience. Gaga praised marijuana for being "wondrous" and credited it for her helping her spiritually as well as helping her cut back on drinking.
According to the Staten Island Advance, Molinaro gestured at the two photos of Mother Monster, saying, "My niece has two daughters, 12 and 14, [and] they love this woman. Why? Why?"
Molinaro claimed Gaga is negatively influencing the future generation.
"There's Gaga. Here's this ... this ... I would call her a slut. This slut is influencing many, many children ... and it's right to do. It's fine, it's part of it," he noted sarcastically.
He then claimed the pop star was not talented. "To me, she's not an actress, she's a slut ... in the pure meaning of the word."
Molinaro lost a son to a drug overdose in 2006.
Stringer, who is friends with Gaga's parents, is proud that she is from his neighborhood. "No matter which continent Gaga happens to be in today, she remains an Upper West Sider at heart," he said.
