There's a reason Tom Hanks is often considered the unofficial King of Hollywood.

A set of Girl Scouts was busy selling cookies in Los Altos, Calif. On Feb. 28 when Hanks (Forest Gump, Captain Phillips) came by and decided to pitch in.

According to People on Thursday, the Academy Award winner and his 19-year-old son Truman were on their way to a typewriter store when they saw the girl scouts working on State Street and decided to help.

In addition to purchasing four boxes of cookies and donating $20 to the cause, the star took the time to snap some photos with the kids and even boosted some of the foot traffic for the cookie booth.

Apparently Hanks hung around for a while and agreed to take a photo with any fan who first purchased cookies from the girls.

"I'm still on cloud nine…" Archana Appanna, mother to one of the three Girl Scouts, told the Los Altos Town Crier on Wednesday. "He was so personable. So down to earth."

Of course, Hanks is no stranger to hospitality. At Paramount Pictures in Hollywood he is known for being incredibly personable. In fact, tour guides at the studio even tell a story about how he road by a tour during the filming of Larry Crown in 2011 and insisted fans come by to meet "his friend Julia", aka Julia Roberts.

Hanks' latest project diverged from his standard movie faire this month when he was featured in the new music video for Carly Rae-Jepsen's I Really Like You on March 6 (featured below).
