Elton John, Dolce & Gabbana News: Singer Launches Attack After Designer's 'Synthetic Children' Comments [VIDEO]
Elton John rallied fans together this weekend to boycott Dolce & Gabbana.
The singer created the #BoycottDolceGabbana hashtag on Saturday after hearing comments made by fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana regarding their opinion on In Vitro Fertilization.
"I call children of chemistry, synthetic children. Rented uterus, semen chosen from a catalog," declared Dolce during an interview with the Italian magazine Panorama this month.
"The family is not a fad," added Gabanna. "In it there is a supernatural sense of belonging."
John was incredibly offended by the designer's use of the word "synthetic" and decided to unleash his fury on Instagram later that day.
"How dare you refer to my beautiful children as 'synthetic' and shame on you for wagging your judgemental little fingers at IVF," wrote John. The 67-year-old has two children with husband David Furnish, both of whom were brought into the world via In Vitro Fertilization.
Back in December John referred to his family as "the greatest gift of all" and believes Dolce & Gabbana's way of thinking is "archaic" and "out of step with the times."
This is not the first time Gabanna has been in hot water regarding his idea of the family structure. According to The Guardian, the designer insisted in 2006 that he is "opposed to the idea of a child growing up with two gay parents."
"A child needs a mother and a father," he insisted. "I could not imagine my childhood without my mother. I also believe that it is cruel to take a baby away from its mother. "
John has vowed never to wear Dolce & Gabanna again. As of Monday, the hashtag started by the singer was still trending.
