Actor Emile Hirsch made his first court appearance on March 16 for assault charges for allegedly attacking a VP of Paramount Digital at a Sundance party earlier this year.

Hirsch had reportedly almost choked Daniele Bernfeld, a female executive from Paramount after getting into a bad fight with her at the event. The cops showed up at the scene at 3:30 am on January 25, according to a Deadline report. Phil Kirk, one of the chief investigating officers also spoke to the publication about the development then.

"Currently this is an active case that we're still investigating," Kirk said. "We'll be submitting the case to the Summit County Attorney's Office for screening as soon as we complete the investigation."

If proven guilty, Hirsch would have to do five years of jail time in addition to paying up a $5,000 fine on third degree felony charge, according to a Deadline report.

The actor was spotted wearing a black suit and tie, accompanied by his lawyer outside the court in Park City, Utah.

He also had to go to Summit County jail for the proceedings -- getting his picture and fingerprints taken -- and his mugshot was revealed by US Magazine.

The actor was promoting his latest film, Ten Thousand Suns, at the Sundance Film Festival which premiered at the event. The actor plays the part of Johnny, who is Teddy's (Avan Jogia) half-brother and tattoo artist who fiends up befriedning Jude (Asa Butterfield) after moving to Manhattan. Teddy id Jude's friend who expires from a drug-overdose. Jude is the protgonist of the film, which has been directed by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini.
