Big 'True Detective' Announcement Might Be Coming In April
On March 13 Deadline announced that the actor has signed with the management company WME after having spent years with CAA. While some might not put too much stock in the change, the fan site True Detective Rumors believes the switch could be part of Vaughn's attempt to restyle is image.
Though he started his career as a dramatic actor, Vaughn is known these days for comedies like Dodegeball and Wedding Crashers. True Detective marks the actor's first dramatic role in years. So is it the start of a new path? Will the HBO crime drama reshape his career as it did for season one star Matthew McConaughey?
Timothy V. Murphy's 'True Detective' Role Still Under Wraps
"For me, it's a chance to go and play a very unique character, something that's dramatic," said Vaughn of True Detective during an interview with Today on March 5. "And be a part of something that I think is really exceptional."
Vaughn will star this season as career criminal Frank Semyon alongside Colin Farrell (Detective Ray Velcoro), Rachel McAdams (Detective Ani Bezzerides), and Taylor Kitsch (Officer Paul Woodrugh). Penned by series creator Nic Pizolatto, the new installment will follow the events surrounding a corrupt California city manager's murder. Fast and Furious alum Justin Lin will direct the premiere.
True Detective will return on HBO for a second season mid-2015.
