This has not been the best of years for Vicki Gunvalson. First the Real Housewives of Orange County star found out that her on-again, off-again boyfriend Brooks Ayers was diagnosed with cancer and then her mother passed away just last month. Ayers is now opening up about his cancer treatment, revealing that his body is not responding to the chemotherapy sessions he's been going to for several months now. Ayers has Stage 3 Non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

According to Reality Tea on Friday, Ayers' recent 6-month round of chemotherapy hasn't yielded good results.

He said, "When the test results came back, the numbers haven't changed substantially. They haven't gotten worse, but they haven't gotten better. That was kind of disheartening, to be honest with you."

With Gunvalson by his side, Ayers says he's been in good spirits. What's more, fellow Housewife Shannon Beador has also been very helpful during this difficult time for him, as she has been suggesting holistic medicine alternatives.

Ayers said, "Shannon Beador's been very much in our corner and putting us in contact with a lot of unbelievable world-renowned holistic physicians based here in Irvine (California). We're exploring that and with that would come no chemo. It would be addressing and taking what I've been doing with the holistic diet and an infrared sauna."

As far as Gunvalson, Ayers added that she "keeps me up and going and it's been good rather than just routine, monotonous life - that's not what we're about. So it's been very good from that perspective."

The Real Housewives of Orange County is slated to return to Bravo this Spring.
