"I think it's an amazing story," Boneta shared of the mini-series, adding, "It's an epic story. You know, it's 900 Jewish warriors against the entire tenth legion."

"The Romans were an incredibly cruel and oppressive regime," Downey added.

Boneta then talked about Masada.

"It still exists and you can go there and see how these people lived," he revealed, adding, "They had water, used doves to fertilize their lands."

Downey and Boneta touched upon how relatable and modern The Dovekeepers is since it touches on the history of war, but also focuses on the characters' personal relationships especially in regard to romance.

"It focuses on the people, not on the event," Boneta explained.

Kathryn Prescott, who portrays Aziza in the mini-series, said the story behind The Dovekeepers "is driven by the characters and what's happening to them."

Clips from filming on set in Malta are shown as Downey discussed how historical events are rarely told from a woman's perspective.

"This is a story that's completely centered around the unique and complicated stories of three women," Rachel Brosnahan, who portrays Yael, shared.

The Dovekeepers premieres on March 31 at 9 p.m. ET and concludes on April 1.

Each night it will run for two hours.
