The X-Files is set to make a comeback on television with a new season.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will be reprising their roles in the show which is getting a six-episode revival from Fox. For die-hard fans of the show, this will be a very sincere return as the creator of the series Chris Carter will be steering this ship again as well.

Duchovny and Anderson played the parts of FBI agents, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, who essentially solve cases which have to do with paranormal activity in the series. The X-Files was a massive hit in the Nineties and ran for nine seasons. The show as also adapted for film in 1998 and 2008.

A BBC report got quotes from Carter and Fox execs, Dana Walden and Gary Newman about the show.

"I think of it as a 13-year commercial break," Carter said. "The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories."

In a joint press statement, Fox Television Group execs, Walden and Newman, expressed their excitement at bringing the show back on air:

"We had the privilege of working with Chris on all nine seasons of The X-Files - one of the most rewarding creative experiences of our careers - and we couldn't be more excited to explore that incredible world with him again.

"The X-Files was not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture - yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning.

"Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as The X-Files and we're ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they've been waiting for."
