British music icons The Beatles have lost a loved one.

The late John Lennon's first wife, born Cynthia Lillian Powell in Blackpool, England on September 10, 1939, has passed away.
Cynthia and John's child Julian was by her side as she had her last breaths.

On Julian's Twitter on Wednesday he shared a photo of his mother, who was 75, inside a heart with the following message: "Cynthia Lennon - In Loving Memory".

On his website, it stated that his mother "passed away today at her home in Mallorca, Spain following a short but brave battle with cancer."
"The family are thankful for your prayers," it further stated, adding, "Please respect their privacy at this difficult time."
The 51-year-old son also made a video, which is below, in memory of his mother. It features many photos of Cynthia over the years.
He has a half-brother Sean who his father had with his second wife Yoko Ono after divorcing Cynthia in 1968.
Cynthia and John initially met at Liverpool College of Art and wed in August 1962.
Former Beatle Ringo Starr tweeted his condolences once he learned of Cynthia's passing.

The man behind The Beatles' only official biography, Hunter Davies, also paid tribute to John's first wife.
The Mirror reported that the British author and journalist recalled spending plenty of time with the Lennons and shared that Cynthia was a "lovely woman."
