The siblings spoke with People Magazine for a special edition dedicated to Dancing With the Stars. In an excerpt posted on Friday, Julianne and Derek discuss what it was like growing up with each other.

Derek admits that Julianne certainly rubbed it in his face after she won her first season on Dancing With the Stars.

"When we were growing up, I won everything, so when we went to Dancing and she won [before me], she was the first one to rub it in my face," he says.

Julianne was only with Dancing With the Stars for seasons 4-8 before pursuing other career opportunities. She returned to become the official fourth judge during season 19 while Derek has stayed with the show, performing as a pro dancer.

Julianne speaks of the dynamic of judging her own brother, admitting that it is not difficult to judge him and his partner.

"I thought about it, but I want [the other pros] to know I'm on their side," she says. "I know what they're going through. People ask, 'Is it hard to judge your brother?' It's not because we don't take anything personally when it comes to our work."

Derek and his celebrity partner Nastia Liukin are emerging as frontrunners this season, managing to receive high scores from the judges since Week 1. If Derek goes on to win the season with Liukin it would be his sixth Mirrorball Trophy, extending his lead over all the other pros.

Dancing With the Stars airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
