Don Draper might be getting a lot of attention from the ladies for his handsome looks and charming ways, but according to actor Jon Hamm, it's been "tough" playing his on-screen persona. The actor opened up about the iconic television role and the season finale for the AMC hit drama, Mad Men.

According to Variety, Hamm said that while he has loved working on the show, it hasn't been smooth sailing for him as he usually gets stereotyped by the character that has made him a household name.

Mentioning how he was offered a similar roles, he said, "They were a guy in a hat, a guy with a cigarette, a guy in a suit, a hard-boiled detective - dark, brooding, alcoholic womanizers. I do that eight months out of the year. That's not all I can do."

Hamm also said that playing Don Draper "does not come without it's own difficulties."

He said, "It's not fun to live in this guy's headspace year after year. And [showrunner] Matt [Weiner] will tell you, the darkness in Don has not abated, it's gotten worse year after year. It's relentless. And it can be hard on you as a person. I love coming to work; I love the people I work with. But it's been rough."

Meanwhile, Mad Men director Scott Hornbacher warns that the final episode will "divide fans" when it airs later next month.

Speaking to Deadline, Hornbacher said, "I feel like on some level every year when the show goes on the air people are a little bit upset that it's not what we did the season before. So then they kind of get on board with what the story is and all [of a] sudden they realize what's happening and they like it."

Mad Men airs on the AMC network on Sundays.
