‘The Vampire Diaries’ News: What We’ll Miss Most About Elena Gilbert [PHOTOS, VIDEOS]
Monday night, Nina Dobrev, who portrays Elena Gilbert on the hit supernatural series on The CW, announced via her Instagram that once the current sixth season is complete, she would be moving on from the show.

The seventh season of this drama has already been given the green light, but it clearly won't focus on Elena anymore and her connection to the Salvatore brothers, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley).
The show's creator, Julie Plec released a statement, which Entertainment Weekly shared Monday night that shed light on what the focus will be of the series moving forward with Dobrev's departure.

"We look forward to the insane and exciting challenge of continuing to tell stories of our Salvatore brothers and our much-loved and gifted ensemble," Plec said, which got us thinking about all the things we'll miss about Elena.
- We'll miss Elena's friendships with Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Caroline (Candice Accola).
These girls have been through so much together over the years, between all the deaths, high school graduation, going to college, boy troubles and more. Despite the ups and downs, they've always been the best of friends.
One of our favorite scenes of these three is from Season 4 when they have a dance party, which can be seen below.
Plus, when Elena and Bonnie just reunited this season after being separated thanks to the prison worlds, it was one of the cutest friend moments ever on the series.

- We'll miss Elena as a sister to Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen).
Like her friendships with Bonnie and Caroline, Elena's relationship with her brother Jeremy was constantly tested between the various supernatural situations that would arise and the typical teen angst she was dealing with from Jeremy. The pilot from Season 1 showed a great scene between the two in the men's bathroom at school since Elena was being the typical big sister to Jeremy, which can be watched below.
At the end of the day though, these two always had so much love for each other as seen in the way they hug below.

- We'll miss Elena's ever-evolving relationships with Damon and Stefan.
Elena has been a lover to both of these guys as well as a friend. The dynamics between Elena and each Salvatore brother have always been incredible to watch. It's sad to think there won't be anymore Stelena or Delena scenes once Season 6 ends, but here are a couple of our favorites from Season 1 between Elena and Stefan and Season 5 between Elena and Damon.
- We'll miss Elena's friendship with Matt (Zach Roerig).
Elena and Matt were previously a couple, but they formed such a beautiful friendship moving forward from their romantic past. The scenes below from Season 3 show how much Matt and Elena care for each other. Matt drugged Elena with good intentions to get her out of Mystic Falls, but of course things went wrong and as they were on their way, Rebekah (Claire Holt) showed up and caused them to drive off the bridge, which prompted Elena to ask Stefan to save Matt over her.
- We'll miss Elena since there won't be anymore behind-the-scenes pictures or cast and crew hangouts including Nina Dobrev.
The Vampire Diaries family has been known to share lots of fabulous photos from on set and beyond of each other and we're quite devastated that won't be the case anymore with Dobrev included once Season 6 ends. One of our favorite Instagram photos Dobrev uploaded is of her with her "many boyfriends," who of course happen to be some of her male costars from TVD. She was poking fun at the tabloids and that just won't happen anymore once she's off the series.
Apparently I have SOOOO many boyfriends. Here's four more. I'm so busy. #tabloidsillyness A photo posted by Nina Dobrev (@ninadobrev) on Aug 3, 2014 at 5:53pm PDT
