It was recently revealed that Netflix renewed the show for season 4, but while it is news to the rest of the world, showrunner Beau Willimon didn't even need the heads up as him and his writing team had started work in advance.

Petrov "Using Claire To Play Frank" Reveals Lars Mikkelsen

"Official - S4 of @HouseofCards announced. But the writers & I have been secretly writing for months hehe. @netflix," he tweeted on April 2.

So it seems like the plot is already laid out, and hopefully some spoilers will surface in time. It is also rumoured that filming for season 4 will begin during summer.

Showrunner Responds To Criticism Of Rachel's Murder On House of Cards

The official announcement of the show's renewal was made via the show's offical Twitter account, with a promise to not let all of Frank Underwood's (Kevins Spacey) hard (bloody) work go to waste. "I will leave a legacy. #Underwood2016" stated the caption for the image announcing the return of the show. Season 4 will be premiere in 2016, the exact date has been set yet.

We also have a sneaking suspicion that the Netflix drama will in someways stay true to the BBC original and eventually resort to its crucial plot twists. Just that, as is the American way with television, they will drag the drama out before they get there. In the original series Claire murders Frank eventually, and with the latest season her hatred of Frank has reached dangerous levels. The vile tension between them was especially amped up towards the finale episode.

In a recent interview with the Daily Beast showrunner BeauWillimon addressed the contentious points in the show, which included the deteriorating dynamic between Frank (Kevin Spacey) and Claire (Robin Wright).

Willimon spoke about a scene which comes disturbingly close to sexual violence between Frank and Claire. The showrunner dished about what inspired the scene and what it meant to convey about the relationship of the couple.

"The scariest thing for us, narratively, was to take the core of this show, its greatest strength -- this unorthodox, unholy union between these two people -- and see it break apart," Willimon said. "It had to be violent, and not just physically, but psychologically. What we're seeing is a rift. It's had 28 years to grow stronger, and through the course of a very short amount of time in the White House, it's come apart."

If this relationship continues to ride the downward spiral, it wouldn't be outlandish to assume that Claire might do something drastic to Frank.
