'Full House' Revival: Companion Series On Netflix CONFIRMED, Details On Storyline Including Who Will Be A Widow Here [VIDEO]
It's official, and one of TV's long-standing favorite families will be back in fans lives soon enough, with the confirmation that the Full House revival series Fuller House has officially been picked up by Netflix.
Netflix Reportedly 'This Close' To Signing Deal On 'Full House' Revival
John Stamos, who starred on the original series as Uncle Jesse and will be both a guest star and producer for the new series, confirmed the news on an April 20 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
"I'm gonna give you the exclusive," Stamos told Kimmel on the show. Literally, just like....five minutes ago, they called, they sealed the deal."
John Stamos & Bob Saget Confirm A Sequel Is In The Works
"We've been working on this for many, many years, the original creators, Jeff Franklin, Bob Voight, Tim Miller, we were trying to do some sort of spin-off and we wanted to give credit to the legacy, we didn't just want to throw it away," he continued. "So Netflix came around and said let's do 13 episodes. So it starts off as a reunion, and then spins off into this...well it's a spin-off."
Stamos also revealed some of the plot details behind the spin-off, confirming it would have a similar starting off point to the kind the original series had--with Candace Cameron Bure reprising her role as D.J. (who is now widowed, much like her father, Danny --Bob Saget--was on the original series). Joining her in her house will be little sister Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin), and best friend Kimmy Gibler (Andrea Barber).
"So you have Candace and Andrea Barber, Kimmy Gibler, and Candace has three boys and it's sort of a reversal and we turn the house over to her," Stamos said. "But it's a labor of love and we've literally been trying for so many years to do it right, and I think that we finally got it perfect and they five minutes ago said, tyou can give the exlcusive to Jimmy Kimmel, so I've just given it."
TV Line reported additional details about the series, stating it would also take place in San Francisco and see a recently widowed--and pregnant--D.J. trying to take care of her two boys--rebellious 12-year-old J.D. and neurotic 7-year-old Max, as well as her soon-to-arrive baby. To help her out, aspiring musician Stephanie will move in alongside Kimmy, who is also a single mother to a feisty teenage daughter Ramona. The series picks up in 2016.
As for other members of the original cast returning, Stamos couldn't confirm if they all would, but he did reveal his thoughts about the legendary Danny and his younger daughter, Michelle (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen) returning.
"He better be," he said when Kimmel asked if Saget was returning, before revealing his back-up plan if the Olsen twins chose not to reprise their famous role.
"If we can't get the Olsen twins we're going to dress you up," he said to Kimmel.
Other deals that have not been confirmed for the return include Dave Coulier (Joey Gladstone), Lori Loghlin (Aunt Becky), Blake and Dylan Tuomy-Wilhoit (Nicky and Alex), and Scott Weinger (Steve Hale).
