Arlo Guthrie's Wife Dies at 68; Jackie Suffered from Liver Cancer
The wife of folk singer Arlo Guthrie is dead.
On Sunday, Jackie Guthrie passed away at the age of 68, according to CBS News.
Arlo announced in an obituary on Monday that Jackie suffered from inoperable cancer. She died at the couple's home in Sebastian, Fla. after recently celebrating the couple's 43rd anniversary.
''We didn't always like each other,'' Arlo wrote on Facebook. ''From time to time there were moments when we'd have our bags packed by the door. But, there was this great love that we shared from the moment we met - a recognition - It's YOU! And we would always return to it year after year, decade after decade and I believe life after lifetime.''
Jackie was originally from Salt Lake City, Utah before moving to southern California.
The couple first met in 1968 when Jackie worked at the Troubadour nightclub in Hollywood, Calif., according to the obituary released by Guthrie's music label, Rising Son Records. While at the popular club, Jackie told Arlo's stepbrother that she planned on marrying the folk singer even before she had met him.
Arlo and Jackie purchased a 250-acre property they called "The Farm" the year after they met and were married on the lawn. The property located in Washington, Mass. is still owned by the family.
Jackie toured with her husband while working as a videographer. While working on tour this summer celebrating the centennial birthday of Woody Guthrie, Arlo's folk singer father, Jackie started showing troubling health signs.
In September, Jackie was diagnosed with liver cancer. She was surrounded with her family when she died Sunday morning.
Jackie is survived by her husband Arlo Guthrie and their four children; her daughter with singer David Crosby; and 10 grandchildren.
