The International Dance Council doesn't care if you're a professional dancer or an amateur. Just get up and dance!

Each year the International Dance Council has a main focus and this year it is to combine other forms of art with dance.

"I am sure audiences would appreciate more arts included in dance performances, starting with the classical arts: painting, sculpture, theater, music, poetry, architecture, as well as more modern forms like photography, cinema, multimedia, lighting design, sound design," the president of the International Dance Council, Alkis Raftis, said in a statement.

With that being said, we have compiled a list of great dance themed movies, some of which do incorporate other art forms to tell the stories of the characters.

Step Up Franchise

The Step Up franchise made its debut in 2006 with leads Channing Tatum as Tyler Gage and Jenna Dewan as Nora Clark.

In Step Up Tyler went against the odds and rose above, paving the way for a great life.

In the scene below, dance was combined with singing.

Next came Step Up 2: The Streets in 2008, which added more theatrical elements into the storyline that ultimately revolves around dance.

In the scene below, the dance crew 410 that the lead female Andie (Briana Evigan) belongs to pulls off a prank in the subway while incorporating masks and the various members portraying various kinds of people that ride the subway daily.

In 2010, Step Up 3D made its mark! Moose (Adam G. Sevani) and Camille (Alyson Stoner), seen in the prior movies head to New York University, but despite majoring in electrical engineering, Moose finds his way back to dance and gets involved in an extreme dance battle.

In the clip below, water becomes an art form as Moose and the other dancers dance on it.

Then in 2012, Step Up Revolution hit theaters and incorporated art forms such as sculpture, multimedia and more as The Mob made public announcements through their choreography.

In the clip below, The Mob made their message loud and clear.

Just last summer, the latest installment of the Step Up franchise debuted called Step Up: All In, which featured many characters seen in the previous movies. In it, the characters fans have grown to love struggle to make it in the entertainment industry, but they eventually come out on top.

In the clip below, a lot of the choreography is over-the-top, involving props such as fire twirling batons that are typically seen at circuses.

Dirty Dancing

This is a classic dance themed movie. The iconic lift that is in the clip below is a major thrill in the movie, but it's about so much more, including growing up.

This movie goes beyond dance appreciation.

Save the Last Dance

This movie has so much heartache and heart as it takes elements of classical ballet dancing and hip-hop to tell the story of Sara (Julia Stiles).

Watch the trailer below to refresh your memory on this 2001 movie.

Flashdance

This 1983 dance themed film is another classic!

The scene below of Alex (Jennifer Beals) running in place and vigorously shaking her head is iconic.

As poet Rumi said, "Dance, when you're broken open. Dance, if you've torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of the fighting. Dance in your blood. Dance when you're perfectly free."

Watch these movies today to celebrate International Dance Day 2015 since dancing breeds happiness!
