Variety reveals that newer shows on Netflix are challenging the viewership of House of Cards. Recently released shows like Daredevil and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt have scored higher on the audience ratings card than season 3 of House of Cards. The political drama marked a 6.5 percent increase in subscribers, whereas Daredevil drew 10.7 percent and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt nailed 7.3 percent.
It must be said though, that as these are the first seasons of these new shows they do have an advantage over House of Cards which has been on for three seasons now.
Season 3 has not been fans' favorite for the series thus far and there have been various criticisms of it. Recently, showrunner addressed them but said that it wouldn't really alter the storyline of the show.
In an interview with E! Online, Willimon spoke about the negative feedback from some fans for season 3.
"Of course, there were people who wanted to see the Underwoods kick butt in their usual fashion and have victory after victory and I'm sure it was hard for them to see the Underwoods tumble and sometimes fall," he said. "But if they didn't, they wouldn't be human, and it would make it seem like the presidency was a cakewalk, which we know it's not."
And although Willimon is appreciative of all comments positive and negative, it is not going to govern the narrative of his show.
"We have to walk a certain line," Willimon explains. "We don't want to pander or cater an upcoming season based purely on fan responses. But I am interested in what they have to say and I think it's great we can talk to each other."
