There could be a new expert on being mean during the second half of Awkward's upcoming fifth season.

Could 'Awkward' Still Come Back Despite Final Season?

Sadie Saxton (Molly Tarlov) may be in for some major competition, now that Mean Girls' resident dreamboat Aaron Samuels (aka Jonathan Bennett) has signed on to the show for the back half of its fifth season, news which MTV confirmed May 5. Bennett is signed on for a multi-episode arc, which picks up with the Palos Hills gang after they all return home from their freshman year of college.

Bennett will be playing the role of Ethan, a sharp, articulate, late-20s wordsmith whom Jenna meets while working at her summer job. What is unclear is if he will prove to be a friend or foe.

Fans of the show may remember back in the show's third season however, after Jenna (Ashley Rickards) met another writer, Colin (Nolan Funk), who inspired Jenna to go down a massive spiral and torched her relationship with Matty (Beau Mirschoff).

Regardless of whether he will be a positive or negative influence though, Jenn'as on-screen BFF, portrayed by Jillian Rose Reed, is clearly excited to be working with the former Mean Girls star, taking to Twitter to share the news.

"This is the actual best," she wrote before linking fans to the MTV article which announced his casting.

The first half of season five kicks off August 31st on MTV.
