Rob Lowe Sobriety: Actor Celebrates 25 Years Clean, Says There Is 'True, Real Hope' For Recovery [PHOTO]
It has officially been 25 years since actor Rob Lowe put his former wild and partying ways behind him.
The actor took to Twitter over the weekend to announce that he was celebrating a quarter of a century of sober living, sharing a message of hope for those who are also still struggling with their demons.
"To those struggling with addiction, there is true, real hope. 25 years ago today, I found recovery; and a life of promise. #Grateful," he wrote.
Lowe's earlier career was nearly derailed in the 80s, after he was involved in a scandal with a sex tape with an underage girl. Two years after the scandal, he then spent a month in a rehab facility, The Fix reports. Lowe said he has been sober since.
"[Getting sober] changed my life forever and everything good that I have is a result of that," he said. "It's not a struggle for me. I see people struggle with it. I luckily was not a person that needed to struggle. I was done."
Lowe also credited his wife, former Hollywood makeup artist Sheryl Berkoff, with helping him stay sober and being responsible for helping rescue his career, and he has referred to her in the past as "the opposite of an enabler."
Since reaching sobriety, Lowe has found his career back on a solid track, with roles on network shows including The West Wing and Parks and Recreation. He has also since won a Screen Actors Guild award and been nominated for multiple Golden Globes over the years.
