'Fantastic Beasts' To Cast Eddie Redmayne? Brit Frontrunner For Lead In JK Rowling Film [VIDEO]
Eddie Redmayne has spent time on the barricades of Paris and in the universe of Jupiter Ascending, and now the British actor may land on the magic-infused streets of 1920s New York City.

Redmayne is officially in the running for the role of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them's Newt Scamander, a magizoologist of Harry Potter fame, according to Variety. Set in the roaring '20s, the film will follow the young wizard as he pens his renowned textbook, encountering creatures only Hagrid would label "fluffy" and "cute."
It appears Warner Bros. is still considering several actors for the role, although Variety contends Redmayne is now in the lead.

Neither a prequel or a sequel to the Harry Potter books and films, Fantastic Beasts is penned by J.K. Rowling and will serve as an extension of the beloved wizarding world. Rowling is new to world of scriptwriting, but Hypable reports that the esteemed author has completed the project while IGN announced filming is slated to begin this summer.
