Donald Trump Obama Announcement: Barbara Walters Calls Billionaire A 'Fool'
Donald Trump snatched up dozens of headlines this week as he continued to bait President Obama and question his American citizenship, but at least one famous face is not pleased with Trump's actions.
Veteran journalist Barbara Walters discussed the incident during Thursday's episode of "The View" to give the audience her opinion on Trump's latest stunt, in which he offered $5 million from his personal fortune to the charity of Barack Obama's choice if Obama would publicly release his college transcript and passport application.
"Donald, you're making a fool of yourself," Walters said on "The View." "You're not hurting Obama, you're hurting Donald, and that hurts me because you're a decent man. Stop it. Get off it, Donald."
Walters added that she was only speaking in the best interest of the host of "The Apprentice," and she reminded Trump, "I am your friend."
Trump unveiled his offer to Obama on Wednesday after teasing on Monday of this week that he had a "large, bordering on gigantic" announcement about the president of the United States, and he added that he thought it could potentially change the presidential election.
Once Trump finally made the announcement, he got some negative feedback who criticized his offer as everything from silly to a complete distraction from the real issues at hand for the country.
Others have criticized Trump for asking the president to provide documents that he himself has not made public, but a spokesman for Trump said the president should be held to a different standard.
"I tell you what, he'll provide them to you when you provide yours to him," said Michael Cohen, executive vice president at the Trump Organization and special counsel to Trump. "But what's your point? Mr. Trump's not the president of the United States and he's not running for the presidency. And pretty much all you need to do is go to one of the thousand different books that Mr. Trump has been featured in or has written and so on, and you could learn more about him than you know about pretty much anybody on the planet."
