Romney's Jeep Claim; Ad Claims Jeep Production Jobs Moving to China [Video]
The latest advertisement from Mitt Romney hasn't gone over well in Ohio.
The television ad started playing in Ohio on Saturday with the claim that Chrysler is going to move production of Jeeps to China.
This claim naturally scared American autoworkers who thought the bailed out company would cut their jobs and move them overseas.
An announcer is featured in the video claiming that President Obama "sold Jeep to the Italians, who are going to build Jeeps in China" and the screen flashing, "Plans to return Jeep output to China."
Romney's campaign is feeling the backlash of people responding that the claim is false and that the Republican candidate doesn't have the facts.
At a rally in Ohio, Vice President Joe Biden commented on the advertisement saying, "Ladies and gentlemen, have they no shame? ... It's an absolutely, patently false assertion."
The latest presidential polls so strong support for President Obama in Ohio which was heavily impacted by the 2009 auto bailout. Biden continues to try and gain the support of working-class voters in the state, but his latest attempt is likely to backfire.
Former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland said the ad was a "blatant attempt to create a false impression" and that he demanded it be removed from Romney's campaign.
Romney's senior advisor, Stuart Stevens, defends the ad saying it isn't misleading.
"Right now every Jeep built is built in America by an American and sold to the world," says Stevens. "Now instead of adding jobs in Toledo, they will be making Jeeps in China by the Chinese and selling them in China."
In 1984 Jeep started joint production of their vehicles with China, but they continue a majority of manufacturing in the U.S for export.
