Fans of Call the Midwife better grab some tissues when the fifth season premieres, it's going to be needed.

'Call The Midwife' Cast & Crew Work On Upcoming Christmas Episode

On Friday, Stephen McGann who plays Dr. Patrick Turner on the series, tweeted something that might make fans want to brace themselves a little. Even though the series is known for its heartbreaking scenes, it appears that whatever happens in the upcoming episodes has even gotten to the actors.

'Call The Midwife' Has 'Power' To Raise A Certain Awareness?

Call the Midwife is one of the most popular shows on television, and has been a tear-jerker since day one based on McGann's interview with Science Festival.

"We knew it was good when we did our first birth scene," the actor said. "Everybody in the room cried- burly camera operators as well as the actors! It was moving and compelling. But nobody had any idea just how much the series would catch the public's imagination. We continue to be overwhelmed by the worldwide response."

McGann also gave the impression that more scientific elements might be used on the series to raise awareness of its importance.

"As Professor Brian Cox has argued, there should be no part of public life from which science is considered absent or irrelevant," the 52-year-old said. "Why should it be? Our popular culture is the way our society 'thinks out loud' about the things it cares about- through drama, journalism, art, politics. Surely science- as one of the key ways that we think about our world- belongs in those places."

Call the Midwife Season 5 is expected to premiere in the United States this holiday season on PBS.
