In the interview, which can be watched below, the actor and comedian revealed with much shock in his voice that he "can't believe" he's actually there.
"I can't believe I'm here," Morgan said, adding, "I can't believe I'm in front of you."
He said the accident "touches" him as his eyes glassed over while he sat with a cane held in one hand to help him walk.
Morgan credits his family and friends for helping him get through the rough year between his time spent in the hospital and all the rehabilitation.
"They keep my spirits up," he said of his daughter, son, other family members and friends, including his attorney.
"I mean the case is settled," he said of the lawsuit he hit Wal-Mart with last July, adding, "But the pain is always going to be there for Jimmy Mack [James McNair's stage name]."
At this point in the interview, Morgan became more emotional, with tears spilling from his eyes and with his voice shaking while citing McNair "was a loving man and he was a warm man. He was a good man."
The actor revealed he doesn't actually recall the accident, but did recall the last time he saw his fallen friend alive.
"The last time I saw Jimmy; Jimmy wrote a joke for me. It was a Donald Sterling joke and I asked him to come with me the day before and he said, 'I'll be there. I love you. Peace.' We went there and we did the show and I did the joke and everybody got applause breaks and I looked to the side and I see Jimmy standing there laughing. And that was the last time I seen him alive," Morgan shared.
Morgan revealed after coming out of his coma he began watching the accident on YouTube repeatedly and he also watched his friend's funeral on YouTube.
"I had to know what happened to my friend," Morgan told Lauer when asked why he'd subject himself to watching the accident on YouTube.
The actor also discussed the injuries he sustained from the accident.
"There are times where I have my good day and my bad days, where I forget things," he said, adding, "There are times where I get the headaches, and the nose bleeds. I won't even let my lady [Morgan's fiancée Megan Wollover] know because I don't want her to be worried about it."
Morgan's lawyer took over in speaking to share his thanks to the medical staff that took care of his client before the actor talked about a nurse by the name of Jackie as well as others.
Morgan also commended Wal-Mart for doing right by his deceased friend's family and he's looking forward to returning to comedy.
