While Fox’s Empire already has an all-star lineup, creator and director Lee Daniels is looking at adding another familiar face into the mix.

And it’s an R&B singer.
Daniels took to his Instagram Thursday to hint at "Earned It" singer The Weeknd joining the cast!
He shared a snapshot of himself with the soulful singer and added the caption, “Eyeing up a potential candidate..Hmmmm..@abelxo #empireseason2 #hmmmmm #whatanincredibleartist”.

Also joining the crew is Alicia Keys and Chris Rock. While many viewers thought they would be making cameos, TVLine revealed they will indeed be taking on characters. Singer and actress Jennifer Hudson did the same when she joined the show toward the end of the season as a worker in a mental hospital.
As for what fans can expect when the show returns this fall, Lucious Lyon (played by actor Terrence Howard) will still be in jail after he was arrested for killing his childhood friend and Cookie’s (Taraji P. Henson) cousin, Bunkie. Of course he won’t be in jail sitting down. Most likely he’ll be plotting on how to get out and get even with the person who put him there.
Showrunner Ilene Chaiken said even jail bars can’t hold Lucious back.
“Lucious can do what he does no matter where he is. Lucious, basically, has tentacles.”
Some time will have passed from the first season finale to the new episode. But it’s not clear how much.
Find out when Empire returns to Fox Sept. 23.
