There haven't been any real clues as to what mystery is going to be tackled on the upcoming second season of True Detective, but two new promo clips from HBO have revealed that things will get increasingly more violent and dark as the series progresses.

Are Taylor Kitsch & Rachel McAdams Dating?

The two new clips, titled Chaos and Stand don't overtly reveal the specific mystery or what exactly is going to happen during the season, but what little intel they do provide with their montages of intense moments and on-the-edge action proves that the show will take an even darker and grittier turn as Ray Velcoro (Colin Farrell), Ani Bezzerides (Rachel McAdams) and Paul Woodrugh (Taylor Kitsch) all get sucked into trying to solve the crime which brings them all together.

Stand utilizes several clips of the characters apparently involved in brutal confrontations to show how the story may progress with the increased violence and unexpected twists--as all three detectives themselves show a penchant for conflict. Bezzerides is seen preparing for a battle by sliding a knife into her boot, while Woodrugh and Velcoro both also run in the street with their guns drawn. In addition additional conflicts appear to arise with actual fights, and a potential arson.

Chaos also pieces together several different short clips from the season to hint at the drama as it unfolds, but also gives a hint of what some of it may be through a few snippets of dialogue, which show tension among the detectives, as well as giving a hint about just how deeply involved crooked businessman Frank Semyon (Vince Vaughan) is in the situation.

"I need a direction to turn or I may just start pulling down walls," Semyon says in the clip.

True Detective season 2 premieres June 21 on HBO.
